Podcast Review: The Worst Bestsellers
Jun. 8th, 2019 02:55 pmWhat is it:
The Worst Bestsellers: We read stuff so you don't have to. http://www.frowl.org/worstbestsellers/
Kait and Renata are two book lovers with great taste who look at current and past popular books to find out how good or bad they are. Usually they are very bad indeed. They always have a guest to participate in their misery.
Can I recommend it: Yes
Why is it good?
The hosts and their guests are funny and outspoken and are great at walking the tightrope of making fun of really bad books without judging readers who like those books. Unless the books are openly racist, sexist or otherwise abysmal. And sometimes they find that books with a questionable reputation are a lot better then expected.
To keep it fun and lighthearted there a different sections: readers advisory, candy pairing, would you rather, and my favorite: rock, paper, snicked.
Are there any downsides?
Not really a downside, but the format works best when I have heard of the books before and know what they are talking about. Since not all the books are known here in Germany I sometimes skip episodes because I don't have enough context.
Best episode:
There are 125 Episode atm so it is hard to pick a best episode. The production quality naturally gets better over time but I still like some of the older episodes. Episode 30 - Dianetics was really hilarious.
